Julia DiBiase

Julia began working part-time at St. Francis Springs Prayer Center in September of 2021 as an intern, after graduating from Wheaton College with a degree in Christian Formation & Ministry and a minor in Psychology. During her four years at Wheaton, Julia’s heart for justice and contemplation were fostered. One of the most formative teachings she encountered at Wheaton came from Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hahn, via her favorite professor: “There are two ways to wash the dishes. The first is to wash the dishes in order to have clean dishes, and the second is to wash the dishes to wash the dishes.”

Although Julia never imagined that her first job after college would mostly consist of doing laundry, making beds, cleaning bathrooms, and washing dishes, she was grateful to be able to spend her days exploring what it looked like “to wash the dishes to wash the dishes” in mind, body, and spirit.

Over the last several years, Julia’s job has evolved into much more than washing dishes and making beds and she now serves as the Assistant Director of the Center.

Julia lives in Durham, NC, where she spends her free time with friends, creating in the pottery studio, reading, and trying to figure out how to get things to grow in her garden. If you are curious to know more about Julia’s interests, explore the many shelves of the bookstore and you will get a pretty good idea of what she is interested in (as she is the one responsible for curating our bookstore).
